Our History
The story of Knorr-Bremse Global Business Services (GBS) began in 2016, when Mr. Heinz Hermann Thiele approved the Shared Services Europe business case. This decision laid the foundation for building a centralized service model that would transform the way the company operated.
In 2017, the first milestone was reached with the launch of the Shared Services Center in Liberec, Czech Republic. The center initially focused on Accounting, IT, HR and Indirect Purchasing, providing a solid base for future expansion.
Just one year later, in 2018, the European Shared Services project was successfully completed. This initiative not only streamlined operations but also delivered approximately €5.1 million in savings, proving the value of the shared services concept.
The momentum continued in 2020, when the scope of services grew to include IT enhancements as well as Reporting and Controlling capabilities. These additions strengthened the center’s role as a reliable partner in supporting Knorr-Bremse’s operations.
A major transformation came in 2023, when the Executive Board approved the expansion of the model into a truly global structure. The shift from a European Shared Services model to Global Business Services (GBS) marked a new era in delivering value across continents.
By 2025, Knorr-Bremse GBS had evolved into a global organization with four strategic hubs located in Liberec (Czech Republic), Monterrey (Mexico), Pune (India), and Suzhou (China). Together, these centers provide Finance, HR, Purchasing, and IT services worldwide, ensuring consistent quality and operational excellence across the entire Knorr-Bremse Group.
